Images of Kagnew Station and Eritrea/Ethiopia |

I was looking for an Ethiopian
dollar bill (which I didn't find) and ran across these
labels. The ticket was to
the 1956 African Gran Prix that was usually run between Massawa and Asmara but
we were told that it was dangerous and that GIs had won the last one or two so
they banned GIs and held it in Asmara. As I remember, there was a duel between
an old Alpha race car and a newer Ferrari. The Ferrari finally lapped the Alpha
and he dropped out. The race was sponsored by Shell. Jerry Grover(5/06/08) |

Some extremely rare photos from Christmas decorations 1964. Roxie Howard photographed slides provided by Dick Perry and sent them in. The manger display was made in the wood shop at Kagnew Station and the display was outside SRU-9. Thanks to Roxie and Dick for these gems: [1] | [2] | [3] | [4](7/18/07) |

Angie Thompson found this post card
in her father's (Henry Hughes) belongings. Henry served with the British Forces
in Eritrea, which she said would have been after the war as he was born in
1932. It's a postcard of the famous
road to Massawa.
(Back of
card)(2/20/07) I contacted my friend Francesco DeLeonardis in Italy and he translated the Italian on the card. ERITREA - The highest point of the Massaua/Asmara road (2415 meters [above sea level]) Thanks Frank....Rick |

Kagnew veterans license plates. (Updated 9/07/07) |
I came across some videos taken in
Eritrea and they're now available for viewing. They are in the .mov format and
should be able to be played in most video playback software. The filesizes are
1-2 megs so it would be best if you downloaded them to your hard drive and
viewed them from there. I also zipped them into a 10 meg file if you want to
download all of them at once. Sorry there is no sound.
