• Asmara’s market "the Bosh". The sound and smells are coming back from just looking at this photo. I can remember the smell of diesel fuel from the busses in the air and the smell of the horse dropping form the Jerry Carts (sp?).

• I have long forgotten the name of this church in Asmara but I can still remember the site and sounds at the time I took the photo.
  The site of the Church he does not remember is "Campo Polo" close to the Kagnew St. and the Church's name in tigrigna is Bet Maka (St Michael). Thanks to Eros.

  "On Haile Selassie Avenue there was a cafe that was either the Royal or the Victoria. From what I read it's still there. They made the best Cappucino in the known universe. It was the first that I ever had and didn't know until after I left that I would never be able to duplicate it. The froth was so dense that the raw sugar crystals would just sit on the top. They would bring you a plate of pastries, you ate what you wanted and they would refill it and put it one the next table charging you only for what you ate. Many hours friends and I would sit and smoke and drink cappucino at the cafe."

  When I read the above description of Cappucino you placed on the Kagnew page, it brought back many memories. I think this is the cafe you were talking about (attached photo). Inside they had the largest brass Cappucino machine I ever saw to this day. I also remember the male waiters dressed in all white uniforms. The price for the Cappucino was .25 cents Ethiopian which was ..10 cents U.S.

  For those of you who remember, Kagnew helped monitor the '69 moon shot and in 1970, the Expo had a moon rock. Does anyone remember what month the Expo was held in?-Rick

  The "pier" shown in the left lower corner of his photo is really the Dame of Tawlud connecting the island of Massawa to the island of Tawlud. There is also another dame, connecting the island of Tawlud with the coast, which name is Edagà Beray. Thanks to Eros.

• Church in tree outside Keren.As I was told, the woman at the church was a healer and had tried to kill her husband when she had a vision inside the tree. Does anyone out there know the real story?
