STRATCOM News
by Bill Loud
It was reported last week by SP5 Jeff D. Turner, our man in Personnel, that for the past few weeks there seemed to be a new fixture in the Personnel Section. A fixture with a sad expression that would only change when you heard the words, "WHAT ABOUT MY ORDERS". But that all changed this past week when SP4 Michael Bernard finally received his PCS Orders. This feat was achieved after exactly two weeks past his DEROS and numerous visits to the Personnel Section. Maybe Mike will enjoy himself at his new assignment, Presidio of San Francisco. The Personnel Section wishes Mike a good trip and a parting wish, "Please Mike, try not to miss the plane."

Sgt Carl Barnhart also received orders on his volunteer assignment to Vietnam. I guess the first tour must have been wonderful. Good luck to you, Carl. Other assignments that rolled in last week include SSG Billie R. Trimble and SSG David J. Gonzales being assigned to Ft. Detrick, Md.; SP5 Arthur H. Maser to Ft. Bliss, Texas; SP5 Rayfield Bumbry
to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; and SP4 Mark A. Lippie and SP4 Sumio P. Oyama will be assigned to TJSAOC & S APG, Md. Last but not least, SP5 Charles Usuriello will be assigned to the Pentagon, Washington, D. C.

SP5 James L. Luikart, the former Company clerk, and SP5 Richard Gaddis, the former mail clerk, are still holding their breath and keeping their fingers crossed as they are just about the only ones left who are still waiting for assignments. But who knows, maybe Personnel is saving the best assignments till last. A look at the Morning Report this past week shows that not too much has happened around STRATCOM. Of course, LTC Irwin L. Higgs did return from the Commander's Conference in Germany and has again assumed Command. A most unusual thing happened this week, though, as more than a dozen of our personnel came down with the Flu and went from duty to "Sick in Quarters". Let's hope that in the weeks to come less people get this bug.

A quick look at sports shows that
the STRATCOM Slow pitch soft ball team which has opened with three straight victories may be headed for another championship. Coach SSG Clifton Burns, a strong believer in the old theorem, "practice makes perfect", has not let the Jets fast start go to their head. They're out there every afternoon going through their paces. The only thing missing now is fan support. What do you say — how about an afternoon of fun — frolic watching the Jets sock it to their opponents. It will be good for you and the team.

All personnel are reminded that if they are interested in making something known to the rest of STRATCOM personnel, please contact SP5 William Loud in the orderly room, or SP5 Jeff Turner in the Personnel Section. Any items that would interest STRATCOM personnel as a whole, items for sale, general news, or if you are in the need of something, make it known through the STRATCOM news section of the Kagnew Gazelle.
