Four Kagnew soldiers named to
Outstanding Young Men honors

Four Kagnew Station soldiers have been selected for inclusion in the 1969 OUTSTANDING YOUNG MEN OF AMERICA, an annual biographical publication featuring the accomplishments of approximately 5,000 young men of outstanding rank throughout the country. They are SP5 Larry Smith of Company A; SP4 Terry Barcelona, Guard Company; SP4 David Murrin, formerly of Headquarters Company, and SP4 Merle Busic, formerly of Company A.

The four soldiers, nominated for the honor by the Kagnew Station command in recognition of their contributions to public relations
here, were named in the recently announced list of selectees chosen by a 16-man board of advisory editors of the publication.

Smith and Busic were nominated for their enthusiastic and energetic involvement in a local agricultural assistance and advisory program which resulted in the installation of several windmill water pumps for rural Ethiopian communities. Murrin received the nomination in recognition of his development of and participation in the local volunteer teaching program. Barcelona is active in both the American and Ethiopian Boy Scout programs, and also works in the continuity of SP4 Holly Copeland's tree-planting program, operated in conjunction with the Eritrean Agricultural Department.

OUTSTANDING YOUNG MEN OF AMERICA is sponsored by the nonprofit Outstanding Americans Foundation. Nominations for the awards publication are made by Jaycee chapters, college alumni associations and military commandants. Criteria for selection includes a man's service to others,
professional excellence, business advancement, charitable activities and professional recognition.

SP4's Murrin and Busic have already departed the Kagnew Command. Barcelona and Smith are still here, continuing their off duty public relations activities.
