I never knew about this, but George Biavati sent in
a few pictures from 1958 to document it. He says drag races were held at an
abandoned airstrip in Keren on Sundays. "I remember we had local police
there to keep back the locals behind a rope. We had a free zone next to the
track where only military personnel were allowed. I do not remember any names
or the cars that are involved. I know I had a 37 Lancia and raced it against a
similar one and lost; but I don’t have that picture either. Or at least
have not found it."
